Daily Debate
Hey guys,
Sorry I havn’t been keeping up with the Daily Debate. I think I’m going to change it to a Daily Debate every two days, and see how that works. If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the blog I will always listen.

First Press Conference of the President Elect
The lame duck session in between November 4th and January 20 seems like a lapse in judgment by the founding fathers. What was the point?

Obama Wins
Barack Obama will be the next president of the United States. Congratulations to everyone that worked so hard for this campaign and voted today. For all McCain supporters out there, your candidate ran a great campaign and you should be proud of that fact. I hope all of us together, as Democrats, Republicans, and Independents to rebuild this country. Have a great night everyone, and pray for a better tomorrow.

Vote for Change

The Hawk’s Vote
President: Barack Obama
I don’t think you guys need me to explain this one, but if I must…two easy words: change and hope. It is as simple as that same vs. change, and fear vs. hope.
Congressional Seat: Lois Capps
I don’t like re-electing people over and over and over, but she really has no meaningful opposition, so for now she is the best bet.
State Senate: Hannah Beth Jackson
3rd District Supervisor: Doreen Farr
To be perfectly honest, I think they are both good candidates. I like Steve Pappas because he seems like a very independently minded person, and I hope if he does not win tomorrow he will run for something again. I’m voting for Doreen Farr because I think she will fight for the preservation Gaviota Coast. If she doesn’t I may have to consider running against her next time around, because I’ll be pissed ; )
Prop 1a: Yes
After a constructive discussion on this blog and discussion with my friends and family, I have decided to vote yes on 1a. I still think it’s a pretty bad proposition, because I think it puts too much into something that is not as important as people think it is. Even with this caveat I think it is more important that we support a foward leaning proposition, that truly supports funding transit as a form of transportation in this state. I want trains to become a bigger part of our life, even if it costs $20 billion (and god I hope it doesn’t).
Prop 2: Yes
It’s simple, vote for the animals not the factory farmers! On a serious note, it IS beneficial for us and the animals. They’ll have more space and we will have healthier food.
Prop 3: Yes
I’m not going to vote for $20 billion for a high speed train, and not give $1 billion for a children’s hospital.
Prop 4: No
It’s the most realistic approach. How can a kid go to their parent and ask for permission for an abortion? I think it is best left up to the teen, the doctor, and any moral figure in a teen’s life.
Prop 5: No
From what I have gathered it let’s a lot of people off the hook for crimes that are not related to drug offenses. I have np problem either with easing up the sentencing on drug offenses (like for possession) but I still think drug dealers should serve a harsher sentence.
Prop 6: No
I don’t have a strong position on this.
Prop 7: No
It sucks, it isn’t the way to approach alternative energy. We don’t want our energy to come from centralized producers for the next 100 years. I want California to get their power from on top of their roofs, I think that is the best solution. WHAT DO WE WANT? DE-CENTRALIZED POWER! WHEN DO WE WANT IT? NOW!
Prop 8: No
Marriage will not be destroyed, families will not fall apart, and the fabric of our society will not unravel. Let’s get real people, it doesn’t dillute the idea of marriage unless your marriage is already at the point where it is easily dilluted (I’m sincerely sorry if it is). A gay couple has the same chance of raising a healthy child as a straight couple does. They have been marrying for the last few months and CA is still standing, who would have thunk’ it?
Prop 9: No
I think that inmates deserve a second chance at life, and getting parole has to already be hard enough. I think what happens in many crimes is horrible, and is incredibly traumatizing for the victims and their families. Yet, I still believe that many times people deserve to have a second chance, and making the chance for a parole more difficult is a bad idea.
Prop 10: No
Bad way to approach alternative fuels.
Prop 11: Yes
Me and Andrew were talking about this, and he mentioned that both Republicans and Democrats oppose this. Redistricting should be non-partisan and independent so we all don’t get GERRYMANDERED (your vocab word of the week) to death. If the Dems and Repubs are both against it, IT HAS TO BE GOOD!
Prop 12: Yes
The vets deserve the money, more than anything else.
How are you all voting?
One final note: I think a lot of these props that I am supporting ARE HORRIBLE. For a very simple reason, THEY ARE SO DAMN EXPENSIVE! They arn’t just expensive but they are all paid by bonds, which are going to cost even more. I think it is sad that these plans are the best we can come up with, we really need to start spending our money more wisely. If the Dems get us into even more of a hole in CA in the next few years, I’ll make sure to throw the bums out. Thanks everyone! Have a great election day!
